My morning and nighttime routines are probably the most important parts of my day.
In the morning, I want to feel energized while at night I want to zen the F out.
I’ve implemented some nightly habits that have completely changed my nights at home and help set me up for the next day.
Nobody wants to be stressed before bed, so here are some things I do to have a zen AF nighttime routine.
Zen nighttime habits to implement into your routine:
Take a bath:
Okay, hear me out on this one. I know not everyone is a bath person, but trust me. Once you start taking nightly baths your body literally craves them. If you add in a little Epsom salt, light a candle, and just soak for 30 minutes before hoping in your sheets. I can guarantee you will sleep like a baby. The warm water soothes your muscle and releases tension. It is also proven that taking a warm bath or shower before bed actually helps lower your body temperature so you will sleep better.
Red light:
I’m sure by now you know about red light by now. Particularly, replacing your lightbulbs in your bedroom with red ones. I thought this was a complete lie until I decided to bite the bullet and let me tell you it’s a miracle worker. There is nothing more calming than a room filled with red light. There are so many benefits to using red light, but at night in particular it stimulates the production of melatonin. Another hot tip is to get a salt rock night light to plug into your bathroom outlet. Turn it on while you are taking a bath and finishing your nighttime routine.
Blue light blocking glasses:
Going along with the whole lights situation, get yourself a pair of blue-light-blocking glasses. As soon as the sun starts to set, pop those suckers on and it will help filter out any blue light that suppresses melatonin production. You can go about doing your nightly activities like watching tv without having to worry as much about the stimulating blue light.
Nighttime drinks:
One of my favorite parts about my nighttime routine is the drinks that I make. I usually make two drinks, one is your classic sleepytime tea. I get this one from Target, which is “extra strength” because it has a valerian root in it. Valerian root is known for its calming effects, making it perfect for nighttime. The next drink you can make for your zen nighttime routine is CALM, or as I like to call it “calm tea”. CALM is a flavored magnesium powder that you mix with water. I like the raspberry lemon one and I mix it with warm water to make it a warm tea. You’ll be sleeping like a baby.
Read:
This is such a cliche thing to suggest before bed, but reading truly helps you fall asleep faster especially when combined with the other suggestions. You don’t have to read a ton of the book before bed, but I aim for a few chapters or until I get that “sleepy” feeling in my eyes. For some reading suggestions, check out this post.
What are some things you guys do for a zen AF nighttime routine? I’d love to know your thoughts.
